SOCAR Job Vacancies (Production Engineer)

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) - On December 15, 2023, Baku Higher Oil School (BHOS) hosted an international inauguration conference on the ‘One Company, One Country’ project.

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) and bp jointly organised the conference as a part of the Advancing Global Methane Reduction (AGMR) initiative under the Methane Guiding Principles (MGP), which SOCAR is a member of.

The event convened a diverse group of stakeholders, including oil and gas operators, service providers, and representatives of the operating companies and joint ventures across Azerbaijan.

In their opening addresses, SOCAR’s Vice-President Afgan Isayev and bp’s Vice-President for Communications and External Affairs for the Caspian region, Bakhtiyar Aslanbayli, provided an in-depth overview of the project’s goals and objectives.

The collaboration between SOCAR and bp focuses on instigating methane emissions measurement, reporting, and reduction strategies among Azerbaijani oil and gas operators. The initiative also aims to elevate industry knowledge and skillsets while promoting best practices in environmental stewardship.

The conference also reflected on the successful collaboration of both companies at COP-28, highlighting their shared commitment to combating climate change.

A highlight of the conference was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SOCAR and bp to enhance cooperation in environmental protection, particularly in reducing global methane emissions.

Keynote discussions at the conference emphasized the MGP’s role in identifying key priorities for mitigating methane emissions throughout the entire value chain of natural gas, from production to consumption. As MGP members, SOCAR and bp are set to take a leading role in driving methane reduction efforts, within their operations and among service providers in Azerbaijan.

Production Engineer


Main Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare IPRs and/or Prosper models for all wells within areas of assigned responsibility. Understand current operating points of all wells and identify opportunities for improvement

• Monitor water injection performance. Work with reservoir engineers to ensure voidage replacement targets are met

• Work with operations and facilities engineers to improve water injection wells and systems

• Monitor injection well performance using Hall Plots etc to monitor for well plugging and recommend corrective measures such as well stimulation, high pressure injection, backflows

• Recommend completion changes required to facilitate injection well performance improvements such as installation of larger diameter tubing, packers, removal of restrictions

• Ensure adequate well integrity monitoring of injection wells including casing corrosion logs, packer isolation tests

• Recommend appropriate logging to ensure containment of water injection is meeting expectations

• Champion implementation of booster pumps to increase water injection pressure and volumes as appropriate

• Recommend alternate forms of artificial lift as needed

• Work with cased hole petrophysicist and surveillance coordinator to conduct appropriate subsurface diagnostics to identify performance problems such as unwanted water entry, excessive gas production, sand erosion and fill

• Diagnose artificial lift failures and recommend appropriate design improvements. Work with intervention engineers for implementation

• Recommend technology improvements such as SCADA, Permanent Downhole pressure gauges, sand detectors

• Keep abreast of technology improvements through regular contact with service providers, SPE publications, etc


Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Petroleum Engineering

• 7+ years Production Engineering related experience in international setting

• Expert level use of Petex Prosper and IPM/GAP is essential

• Expert familiarity with Artificial Lift systems including gas lift, ESP, Rod Pump, Jet Pumps

• Awareness of new well planning, wellwork & interventions planning processes

• Excellent written and oral communication

• Knowledge of the oil and gas industry, and familiarity with related technical and professional jobs
