On May 2004, Gulf Drilling International Limited (GDI) was established as the first onshore and offshore oil and gas drilling company in Qatar. GDI was formed as a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum (QP), Qatar’s national oil corporation, and Japan Drilling Co., Ltd. (JDC). In July 2007, QP acquired 25% shares of JDC, raising its ownership in GDI to 70%. In February of 2008, all shares of QP were transferred to Gulf International Services, Q.S.C. (GIS) which became a public shareholding company in May 2008 and is listed on the Doha Market.
In May 2014, GIS acquired all remaining JDC shares in GDI to make it a 100% Qatari owned company. GDI celebrated its 10th Anniversary during the same month.GDI has seen rapid growth in the past thirteen (13) years. GDI’s rig fleet has grown to twenty (20) assets and its workforce reached a total of around one thousand six hundred (1600) employees. Its current fleet consists of nine (9) offshore jack-up drilling rigs, eight (8) land rigs, two (2) lift boat and one (1) accommodation jack-up.
Job Objective:
To supervise and participate in the rig floor activities on an assigned rig to ensure timely, environmentally friendly, and safe execution of the established drilling / completion / work-over program.
Key Accountabilities:
> Supervises the activities of assigned personnel on the rig floor to ensure that all drilling activities are conducted as per approved plan and the function is performed at the level established by management for the position
> Operate the drilling controls while observing gauges and other aids to apply appropriate weight on bit, rotation and drill pipe pressure to drill ahead. Drills the hole using good oilfield practice to the required depth including calculating the volume of drilling fluid and required pre-kick estimate of materials needed
> Monitors the string in terms of quality performance. Ensures that proper maintenance and handling is observed, always on the lookout to detect anomalies such as kicks, pressure losses and abnormal torque
> Co-ordinates the use of draw-works to run or pull drill pipe while observing the actions of the Derrick-man and rig floor-man to ensure their safety. Controls the speed of the pipe during tripping by lowering or withdrawing to allow for safe operations on the rig floor and maintain stability in the well
> Monitors and controls the mud activities to obtain proper mud volume, mud quality and sufficient pressure for continuous drilling. Includes directing routine maintenance of the pump room and auxiliary mud equipment
> Maintains primary well control with the use of the correct fluid weights in the well bore that the hydrostatic pressure of the well is maintained above pore pressure

> Reports any downhole issues and trends swiftly to the tool pusher
> Supervises the installation, functioning, pressure testing of the rig BOP and accumulator control system.
Minimum Qualifications:
> Completion of Secondary (12 years) education
> Valid I.W.C.F. Certificate (Drillers Level for Surface Bop Stack)
> Applicable Short Training Courses: Fire Fighting and Survival H2S, ALERT, Accident Prevention, BOP, Well Kick Control and Prevention.
Minimum Experience:
> 8 years’ onshore rig experience with minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Driller.
Job Objective:
Carries out routine checks and minor maintenance/repair duties on engines and other mechanical equipment and tools on assigned onshore/offshore drilling rig and assists in major repairs and overhauls. Assists in rig moves and monitors engines and machinery in the absence of Chief Mechanic. To undertake the duties of the Mechanic (Rig) during short periods of the Chief Mechanic’s absence, for whatever reason and including emergency situations.
Key Accountabilities:
> Undertakes the routine maintenance and servicing of engines and ancillary equipment according to schedules, checklist and specific requirements. Duties include changing oils, cleaning strainers and filters and greasing and topping up hydraulic oils as required. Keeps engine rooms, engines, pumps, tools; clean and tidy.
> Undertakes non-routine minor repairs to engines and ancillary equipment and reports all mechanical faults including those that are beyond capabilities or require use of shore/workshop facilities.
>Assists in routine and non-routine major repairs and overhauls of engines, pumps, generators, hydraulic machinery and other mechanical equipment.
> Maintains engine room equipment at optimal running conditions as instructed. Includes dismantling, cleaning, re-assembling and re-commissioning various engine components.
> Observes safety rules and procedures and watches for unsafe practices, oil spillage, and leaking pipes. Includes ensuring that appropriate work permits are issued for all maintenance and repair work, covering oil spills with absorbent materials and working in dangerous areas as necessary.
> Always conduct all works activities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner by not taking on any task(s) that are perceived to be unsafe.
> Comply with the company QHSE Management system.
Minimum Qualifications:
> Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum Experience:
> 3 years in a similar position

Key Accountabilities:
> To plan and organize preventive and corrective maintenance of all electronics equipment and control system in the operations to keep the rig fully operational with high reliability while ensuring a safe working place.
> Assure the responsibility of the respective rig’s hydraulic maintenance to ensure maximum rig output with minimum hazards.
> Operate the electronics and control systems, its interface system into the electrical system, including VFD controlled electrical power so as to obtain maximum output generation within time and cost limits.
> Maintain the electronics system via continuous checks and tests to ensure conformity with GDI’s maintenance and safety standards.
> Organize, schedule and allocate manpower resources for shutdown and turnaround work related to Electronics equipment in accordance with rig shut down and turnaround plans.
> Acquire maintenance checklists from the PMS (Preventive Maintenance System) and ensure that it meets the listed requirements and perform the monthly preventive maintenance in order to ensure conformity with safety and performance standards.
> Review the inventory of spare parts and reduce the dormant stock to optimum levels so as to reduce the inventory carrying cost.
> Order critical spare parts needed for rig equipment to ensure equipment can be run at short notice.
> Ensure proper reporting to Rig Maintenance Supervisor / Technical Manager. Particular emphasis on maintenance reporting and equipment failure root cause investigation.
Minimum Qualifications:
> Diploma in Electronics / Instrumentation / Electrical Engineering or equivalent

4. Rig Superintendent
Job Objective:
To complete successful Onshore oil and/or gas wells within production targets, costs and to the satisfaction of the client, company management and within compliance of applicable regulations.
Key Accountabilities:
> Always conducts all works activities in a safe and environmentally responsible manner by not taking on any task(s) that are perceived to be unsafe.
> Manages and directs the daily activities of the on-tour drilling department and other key department heads in accordance with client goals and within Company guidelines/policy.
> Notify rig move contractor by email for tentative date & time of rig release to ensure adequate planning for rig release.
> Ensure that necessary rig move permit & PTW has been obtained prior to rig move.
> Visit and assess new location well in advance to identify deficiency of new location & report to Rig Manager
> Perform procedures for circulating kick out in accordance with the wait and weight or driller’s method or concurrent procedures.
> Ensure that adequate levels of inventory for the drilling system equipment are maintained, accurately inventoried, and preserved.
> Monitor day to day operating cost & maintain the operating cost to be within the planned budget.
> Maintain appropriate well control certification and operate the drilling unit in accordance with safe well control practices to ensure compliance with GDI drilling standards, local regulatory requirements, and interactional standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
> Preferably High school graduate
> I.W.C.F. certificate
